Wargaming Asia Pacific managing director Taewon Yun has quit his post to join up with mobile MOBA maker Super Evil Megacorp and spearhead its expansion into Japan, Korea and other Asian regions.
This is intriguing because California-based game startup Super Evil Megacorp designed its debut game, the free-to-play Vainglory, with the assumption that there’s market demand for a ‘core’ mobile MOBA — demand which may be strongest overseas.
The game was initially tested in Southeast Asia last year, and hiring Yun away from Wargaming — where he oversaw the company’s flagship free-to-play game World of Tanks in the Asia Pacific region — suggests that Super Evil sees meaingful growth potential for a mobile MOBA in Asia at large.
“Vainglory proves how much opportunity there is for core games to thrive on touch devices,” stated Yun in a press release confirming his new gig. “I’m very much looking forward to expanding Vainglory and Super Evil’s reach in the [Asia Pacific] region by hiring more top talent, establishing partnerships and helping to bring Vainglory to as many core game lovers in the region as possible.”
